stunning, I always thought that the juxtaposition of linear, flat, unrealistic characters and modeled backgrounds were jarring. I mean best example is Fire & Ice. But you get used to it, as it started as a technology issue. Now Idk, but as long as they blend together enough I can usually accept them as part of the same world now. TAKE A LOOK AT TEKKONKINKREET!
I know why they do it, so they can easily animate the characters flat without changing the backgrounds, but I still love it. Even some stills, simple line art characters and beautiful backgrounds have a certain beautiful look to them.
I wonder if this is digital or water color. If you like this style you may like Hayao Miyazaki. Super awesome architecture and bloody cute movies!!! His works are all water color based!!

Good call Josh!
SERGEI STOP POOPING ON ANIME. AND YES. Listen to Josh. Studio 4°C, Ghibli and I guess whoever did Akira are king.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, this guy's backgrounds are awesome, especially the last one. Great color choices.
