Hey guys,
So recently I had a meeting with an advisor in Career Services on campus. Went over a bunch of stuff, but long story short, she highly recommended I sign up for linkedIn. It's like Facebook, but for professionals, including everything from freelance contractors to companies.. in every field imaginable.
It will also keep a selection of your skills/achievements on your profile which allow you to be searchable by recruiters and hiring companies. It's basically a professional networking site, versus FB, which is pure fluff and not very professional or easily filtered.
It'll also let you follow major companies like Blizzard, Activision, Lionsgate, Apple, whatever you want almost, so long as they have a profile on linkedIn too. You can also click on the companies to see profiles of the people working there and email them directly or add them to your connections to network yourself. Once you're one of their connections, linkedIn allows you to view their contacts, further allowing you to network with more professionals.
Anyways, long story short, I signed up for it and would like you guys to sign up too (and spread the word). It's never too late to start promoting yourself.
Oh, it'll also list all job postings for your area and/or companies (like Blizzard, Disney, etc)...and continue to update new postings if you add them to your Follow list.
ReplyDeleteyeah :) This is a great site. I remember Danielle Halls mentioned it during her lecture in 2010. I got one last year, but I haven't updated it at all since I got it. I really need to though
