Im a fucking awful artist...

You want to play a game? Its called guess which images were made by a loading crayons into a shotgun and firing it at a wall, and which of these "art pieces" I made 2009?

Here is a hint, I don't have a shotgun. Jesus christ.

Grats, What shawncie showed as her middle school work, was my stuff in freshmen year of college.

And thats why, you never ever ever ask me to stop drinking...

Resume Feedback?

Hey, guys, I thought it'd be cool to share my resume and get some feed back. The Resume is an all in one envelope, where the flaps function to close the resume and also hold illustrations. From all the other resumes I've seen this is really really different... I hope that is okay, but we'll see.

So far the only annoying part of this is the fact it's a bit bigger than your normal letter size. But it is definitely handy. Figuring out the digital coloring is a bit of a pain but I think I like how it's coming out. No detering from the linework. I think I need to downsize the font a little more as well.

Anyhow, let me know what you think! This is only the inside of the envelope.

I know this has been going around, but it is always relevant. Keep drawing.

Phoenix Comicon

Here we go people.

May 24th-27th 2012.

I registered as a potential Exhibitor as Awesome Team. All the inline tables are gone. We can get either an artist alley table at $229(31 left) or a corner booth at $599 (50 Left)
Either one will come with three tickets and we can buy more at 35$. They all come with two chairs, but Im sure we can bring our own chairs and whatnot.

The more people we get, the cheaper it will come out for everyone involved. So at 4 people the artist alley table will be (229 + 35)/4=$66 where the corner table (599 + 35)/4=$158.5

The tables are going away everyday so we have to make a decision, and we have to do it soon. I am willing to buy the artist alley table, and get paid back, but I am not going to drop $600 without knowing who is going and getting some reassurance or money up front.

Lets figure out if we are doing this, sometime by this weekend so we can either register, or not. If you guys don't want to do a table, I am perfectly happy to go to the con as attendees, and if we do that we can buy the tickets there, because last time all the assholes that preregistered were standing in a longer line than the ones that bought the tickets on site.

I sent out a text and Ill send out another one, so people will look at this information and actually respond.

New website...

Ok, well as (atleast) Sergei and Shawncee noticed, I put up some new images on my devart page. Alongside that, I made my first "portfolio" website.

I do not intend to keep it long-term, but it's the easiest way for me to get my portfolio online atm. Eventually, I hope to have one designed with my own aesthetics and imagery.

Until then, I guess I'd like to know what you guys think?

I got this escoda brush and it is the sexiest thing I have ever witnessed. Until I sell one of my kidneys for a kolinsky sable.
The fact that these two are the same character sums up everything about my art ever LOL

Because NDA was lifted on these....

Hey everybody! Hell Yes, after a meeting for Local game development it was announced that all the art made over the break will not be used for the game. So I later got the confirmation from the project lead that because of that fact, NDA has been lifted on this specific batch of art. So sweet get to do some sharing :) let me know what you guys think :)

Clément Sauvé, RIP one year later

For those who never saw, Clément Sauvé . Awesome character artist and conceptual artist for TV, comics, and video games, he died at the age of 33 to cancer. He entered comics working as an assistant to Yanick Paquette but made his own mark with pencils on projects including G.I Joe, JLA Secret Files, Stormwatch, and the fondly remembered Human Defense League. Most recently he had been working in character design.

Sidenote: super bummed I didn't save every piece of art on his website as it is no longer up. they were so good. You can still see his art for G.I. Joe Renegade at his deviantart page. http://clementsauve.deviantart.com/

Comicks r hard

weeeping cause this is gonna take forever even if I'm keeping it kind of blocky? I don't really like doing heavy rendering, I decided, haha.

So yeah, despite the designs in my sketchbook, I'm still tightening the looks on the characters. Baaaaaaahhhh.

Hey happy belated new year everyone!!! I've always wanted to do one of these but only after I felt I've gotten to where I wanna go. Now that I have, I finally get to do one! So this is when I started public highschool to where I've gotten. Almost in the real world scary but exciting.

To those of you working on COMIC: SCARY TRAIN (oh snap, just had another title Fright Train!!! Play on the word freight...) I'll see you in music building library Thursday noon!

Linchpins

Lets have anywhere from 3 to 6 lynch pins that will tie the stories together. Sort of have them in a chronological order, and they will make up a timeline that the reader will use to figure out when things are happening.

Possible lynch pins / events:

  • Going through a bunch of tunnels
  • A shoot out between the armed and the monsters
  • Train hitting a bump and shaking up for a few moments
  • Somebody Screaming
  • Windows breaking
  • A train cart getting disconnected (People in that cart could be their own perspective)
  • Some sort of preacher spitting out religious verses
  • Emergency breaks screeching
  • Somebody or Something standing on the tracks
  • Or somebody or something standing along the rails (Like a creepy girl waving at the train as it rolls by)
  • A one liner that somebody yells out (Like a Sam. Jackson type of tough guy saying: "Ive had it with these motherfucking monsters on this motherfucking train." Or another type of one liner like: "You think you're bad? WELL SAY HELLO TO MY SIX CHAMBERED COLD STEEL ANGEL OF DEATH *blam* *BLAM* *BLAM*.

Anyway, lets figure out a few of them and put em in a chronological order so we can get the scripts written!

Layout Pages

I really like the way Brett Weldele lays our his pages in the Surrogates. I actually used it as a model for some of my other comic books.

Lars Martinson's tonoharu is also pretty simple. His books are often long and sort of drawn out, but there is something in the monotony of his layouts that allows him to tell a story like a book, no splash pages, just to the story of loneliness and isolation.

Eleanor Davis also does interesting comics. She mostly does children's books, and I don't think that our project fits that description, but her layouts are always in a strict grid like environment that looks good on a page.

Also Ill probably lose points in everyones books but Ben Templesmith's 30days of night was also an interesting comic. When he's not going full retard on the splash pages, his layouts and grids are often really nice.

Shaun Tan (not shawn ten, who is some sort of gymnast hottie according to google image search) the arrival was also wordless and very nice.

Samura is still king

Ahh, there are so so so many good comics floating around. Anyway, as far as paneling goes, Takeru is one of my absolute favorites because of his simplicity.

And, of course Hiroaki Samura (no I will never stop adoring him everever what a master)

He's also very simple in his panels and saves spreads for really epic shit that blows your pants off. Above is the flow of panels that Telophase drew.

Sharing... Tuesday?

It's not Saturday, but I have no idea where I'll be or what I'll be doing when this weekend hits and I just couldn't wait to show this person's site!

http://irenematar.blogspot.com/

You guys might recognize this little gem. She's the artist that sculpted cheeks' Kuta character.

And for those interested in learning how she did it, she has a tutorial on how she makes maquettes here: http://irenestutorial.blogspot.com/

Enjoy!
